Formula 1 in Hollywood

Updated: Feb 3, 2022

During downtime to one of the greatest seasons in recent memory and in anticipation of a new design power unit reveal, we want to recommend our list of the best movies/documentaries to help keep that racing drive alive.

Pure enjoyment aside, the experience from these films gives a new appreciation for the drivers and for the greatest racing sport itself; and hopefully, pass on to people that want to get into the world of Formula 1.

5) The Formula One Drivers aka The Quick and the Dead (1974)

o A brutal and close look at the fragile lives of Formula 1 drivers in the 1970s.

4) Grand Prix (1966)

o A crash at the Monaco Grand Prix injures one teammate with Jordan-BRM and jeopardizes the career of the other.

3) Senna (2010)

o Arguably, the most famous death in Formula One, Senna takes a look at the career of the beloved Brazilian driver, and his impact on the sport.

2) Rush (2013)

o One of the greatest F1 rivalries put to film. From the early days to their champion runs in the 1970s, James Hunt and Niki Lauda battle back and forth and turn their hatred for one another into a friendship.

1) Weekend of a Champion (1972)

o Roman Polanski’s first attempt at a documentary where he dives into the world of the champion Jackie Stewart. In the weekend of the 1971 Monaco Grand Prix, expectations are high in this rare look into the world champion’s battle to win the world’s most iconic race.
